SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (Wednesday, July 14, 2021) - The Town of Summerville has partnered with Origin SC to provide rental, mortgage, and utility assistance to those who qualify and live in Summerville town limits. Origin SC will provide intake, processing, and approval services to assist the Town with the implementation of the “Summerville Home to Stay” program. Town Council voted on a resolution authorizing Mayor Ricky Waring to sign the agreement between the Town and Origin SC at its regularly scheduled council meeting on Thursday, July 8.
The partnership comes after many have faced financial struggles due to the coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) pandemic. The service is part of a Community Development Block Grant program funded through The CARES Act, a federal COVID-19 aid bill.
Clients may be eligible for up to six consecutive months of assistance at a maximum of $7,500.00. Funds may not duplicate federally funded disaster assistance provided to households for the same purpose/assistance period. Households must be at or below 80 percent area median income (AMI) based on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development income guidelines.
Applicants will be served on a first come, first served basis beginning Friday, July 16. Those interested in applying are encouraged to visit www.OriginSC.org/Homeless-Prevention to confirm residency in the town of Summerville. Applications will be accepted by contacting the Origin SC hotline at (843) 628-2301. The hotline will close Sunday, July 18.
Anyone with questions can contact Josette Lee-Pearson with Origin SC at (843) 628-1291 or P.J. Harbert, Town of Summerville Grants Writer, at (843) 851-4234.
