CHIEF OF POLICE (RETIRED)

 

   

  In May 2004, the Mayor and Town Council appointed Bruce Owens to the position of Chief of Police.  Bruce had served the preceding six years as the Assistant Chief of Police for the Town.  He began his career in law enforcement in 1970 as a state trooper for the State of South Carolina.  His career includes stints with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, and the North Charleston Police Department.  Chief Owens received a B.S. degree in political science from Baptist College (now Charleston Southern University) and a Master of Public Administration degree from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.   He is an adjunct professor of criminal justice at Charleston Southern University and teaches online for the University of Phoenix’s criminal justice program.  In addition, Chief Owens is a member of the Summerville Rotary Club.
